What We Found Out
Frontier Communications, which now reaches rural regions in 28 states, is an expanding company. Since 2009, they have been growing their network, especially in the Great Lakes region, by buying phone lines from other companies and by adding fiber optic infrastructure to provide customers higher-speed internet. In fact, in some rural areas, Frontier may be one of the few internet service providers available to customers who do not wish to purchase pricier satellite internet packages. However, customers have reported unreliable internet service and that they do not always receive the speeds that the company advertised.
Frontier is able to provide fiber optic or cable internet with downloading speeds reaching 24 Mbps and uploading speeds of up to 3 Mbps. Average speeds appear to be around 1 to 2 Mpbs. In terms of DSL, customers can expect faster internet speeds than they would receive from Frontier’s fiber optic or cable internet plans. DSL is also faster than dial-up and gives customers the speeds needed to do activities such as online gaming. However, the speeds are not fast enough to allow for multiple devices to do certain demanding activities like online gaming or downloading at the same time.
Frontier internet access is available in rural regions within 28 states. However, the internet speeds available vary within regions.
Services and Features
Customers get eight free email addresses with a Frontier internet package. Each account includes 5GB of online storage. Other features include parental controls, call-waiting, and email and internet security. Furthermore, customers can receive backup services and protection for their devices.
Like many internet service providers, Frontier offers phone and TV services in addition to internet and allows customers to bundle these services to receive discounts. These additional services are generally available in all 28 states within Frontier’s network.
Customer support can be reached via chat, email, and telephone. Customers who do not need to speak with customer support directly can access the company’s website where they can find FAQs, tutorials, and many other useful resources.
Frontier has an expanding network as it buys more and more telephone lines across the country. It services mainly rural areas and may be one of the only options available to residents in certain rural regions. Many customers will find that the company offers speeds that will satisfy their internet needs.
