What We Found Out
Verizon’s fiber network is in the process of expanding, but that does not stop this provider from consistently delivering dependable and fast fiber optic and DSL internet service. Verizon offers internet services that can reach speeds as high as 500 Mbps, the fastest that is currently available to customers. A multi-billion dollar company with some two hundred thousand employees, Verizon already provides fiber optic internet service to approximately six million customers across the country. Another positive is that the company has several ways in which customers can contact the company for customer support. However, though over 14 million homes are ready for the fiber optic service Verizon provides, some customers may find the network to be limited. Also, customers must pay for some features, like internet security, that may come standard with other internet providers.
The internet speed Verizon’s services provide easily supports such activities as streaming movies, gaming online, and sharing images. Verizon’s fiber optic internet service (FiOS) provides speeds that are fast enough that several computers can stream media, download, and game all at the same time. Overall, according to third-party tests, Verizon offers customers dependable high-speed internet service with speeds that are faster than other DSL-only providers.
Features of Verizon’s DSL plans include download speeds of 0.5 to 1 Mbps, nine email accounts and a wireless router. Customers looking for higher internet speeds can choose a plan with enhanced features including speeds from 1 to 15 Mbps and Wi-Fi hotspot access as well as the features found in the standard plan. While many customers will be pleased with Verizon’s DSL plans, some may find that they require the faster internet connection speeds provided by companies specializing in DSL.
Customers living within Verizon’s fiber optic network can choose from six FiOS plan. Three of these plans offer exceptional speeds of over 25 Mbps for downloads. The lower speed plans begin where the DSL plans end and increase accordingly. Mid-range plans boast speeds of up to 75 Mbps with upload speeds up to 35 Mbps. Quantum plans, Verizon’s name for their fastest speed plans, boast speeds of up to 150 Mbps, 300 Mbps and even go as high as 500 Mbps. It is their FiOS high-speed plans that truly set Verizon apart from other internet providers.
Residents in regions in 14 states across the USA can access Verizon’s fiber optic internet services. The company is currently working on expanding their FiOS network to reach more residents in more states. Customers can use Verizon’s website to determine if their residence falls within Verizon’s fiber optic internet network.

Internet security does not come standard with a Verizon internet subscription. Customers wanting such protection can purchase McAfee internet security from Verizon to go along with their internet subscription. The McAfee package comes with antivirus, antispyware, firewall protection and Verizon Family Protection. Verizon Family Protection gives customers the ability to individualize the internet protection per child. Additionally, parents can filter YouTube and receive text messages or email warnings when children try to put their personal information on social media websites. This add-on, which customers purchase at a low monthly rate, can be used on anywhere from three to nine computers and is available for Macs. Other optional features available for purchase from Verizon include online backup and protection packages.
Customers have several options for contacting Verizon’s customer support. They may contact Verizon through email, telephone, and chat. They can also contact support service through Facebook and Twitter. Verizon’s community forum provides customers with yet another avenue for discussing their services and receiving answers to their questions. Furthermore, Verizon’s website offers answers to several FAQs and has helpful hints that customers seeking support can take advantage of. Additionally, customers can refer to Ask Verizon, an automated customer support tool that helps customers online. Customers seeking 24/7 technical support should keep in mind that there is a monthly cost to receive such services.
Verizon’s internet services will effectively meet your internet needs no matter which of their various plans you choose. A moderate plan with its 75/35 Mbps speeds easily accommodates the average internet user. Customers looking for the fastest downloading and uploading speeds can take advantage of Verizon’s fiber optic internet services if they reside in an area reached by Verizon’s FiOS network.
